Description

Propshaft universal joint, the articulating coupling between the propeller shaft yokes, used at both front and rear propshaft positions.

The joint consists of a hardened cross (spider) running in four needle-roller bearing cups retained in the yoke bores. This arrangement allows the shaft to transmit torque through the continually changing angle between the transfer case output, the axle input and the suspension travel. This is the 95 mm joint size.

Universal joints are a wear item: play in the spider or a dry, pitted needle bearing causes driveline vibration, a clunk on take-up and eventual joint failure. Replacing both joints on a shaft at the same time is normal practice.
