Description

Inlet Valve for the cylinder head valvetrain of the 3.5 V8 carburettor petrol engine.

The inlet valve seals the intake port against combustion pressure and opens to admit the air/fuel charge as the camshaft lobe acts through the pushrod, rocker and valve stem. It runs in a pressed-in valve guide and seats against the machined insert in the cylinder head; the stem carries the valve spring, collets and stem oil seal.

Inlet valves are normally renewed as a set when a head is reconditioned. Each valve must be lapped to its seat on fitting and stem-to-guide clearance checked, so that compression sealing and valve cooling through the seat face are restored.
