Rear Wheel Brake Cylinder for the rear drum brake assembly, bolted to the brake backplate above the shoes.

Hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder acts on the cylinder pistons, which push the leading and trailing shoes outward against the drum. The piston cups retain that pressure and the rubber dust boots keep water and grit out of the bore. When the cups fail the cylinder weeps fluid past the boots onto the shoes and backplate, contaminating the linings and reducing rear braking effort; a seized or corroded bore leaves the shoe unable to travel. The cylinder body is common to the left- and right-hand sides of the axle.

Replace in axle pairs and bleed the rear circuit after fitting. Renew the brake shoes as well where the linings have been contaminated by leaking fluid.
