The parking brake operates as a drum-in-hat mechanism, with the shoes acting inside a drum machined into the centre of the rear brake disc. This spring holds the shoes against their anchor and pulls them clear of the drum surface when the parking brake is released, preventing shoe drag. Renew together with the parking brake shoes to restore correct return tension.
