Description

Thermostat regulates coolant flow within the engine cooling system, with an opening temperature of 82C.

It remains closed while the engine is cold, restricting coolant to the block so the engine reaches operating temperature quickly. Once the coolant reaches 82C the thermostat opens, routing flow through the radiator to dissipate heat and hold a stable running temperature. A failed thermostat causes overheating if stuck closed or slow warm-up and overcooling if stuck open.
