Ignition coil for the distributorless ignition system of the 2.5L KV6 petrol engine. One coil is fitted per cylinder, six per engine, each mounted directly over its spark plug.
The coil steps the low-voltage supply from the vehicle electrical system up to the high-voltage pulse needed to jump the plug gap. Switching is handled by the engine management system, which fires each cylinder independently and so controls ignition timing on a per-cylinder basis. This is the later short dry-body coil; earlier engines used a taller coil of different construction, so all six should be of matching type.
Applies to the KV6 with automatic transmission. A failing coil typically causes a cylinder-specific misfire, rough idle, hesitation under load and a stored misfire fault code.
