Turbocharger cartridge for the right-hand turbocharger of the 3.6L V8 32V DOHC diesel, part of the forced-induction system.

This engine is fitted with two turbochargers, a left-hand and a right-hand unit. The cartridge is the centre housing rotating assembly (CHRA) of the right-hand turbocharger – the bearing housing carrying the balanced turbine shaft and compressor wheel. It is used to rebuild an existing turbocharger: the original turbine and compressor housings are retained and transferred onto the new core.

Exhaust gas drives the turbine, which in turn drives the compressor supplying pressurised charge air to the intercooler and inlet manifold. Before fitting, the oil feed and drain lines must be clean and unobstructed and the engine oil renewed, and the cause of the original failure established – bearing damage is normally the result of an oil supply or oil contamination problem, which will destroy a new core as well.
