Timing Chain Tensioner for the Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel, part of the timing chain drive assembly at the front of the engine.

The tensioner acts against the chain guide to keep the timing chain under controlled tension, taking up slack as the chain wears so that valve timing stays accurate and the chain does not slap against its guides. A failed or weak tensioner allows chain rattle and timing errors and accelerates wear on the chain, guides and sprockets.
