Layshaft is the countershaft of the R380 five-speed manual gearbox.

It carries the constant-mesh gear cluster, transmitting drive from the input shaft to the mainshaft and meshing with the mainshaft gears to establish each ratio. Fitted to R380 gearboxes from gearbox suffix F onward.
