Layshaft Gear for the LT77 five-speed manual gearbox, V8 petrol applications.

The layshaft (countershaft) carries the cluster of constant-mesh gears that run beneath the mainshaft. It takes drive from the input shaft and transmits it through the constant-mesh pairs to the mainshaft gears, where the selected ratio is engaged. Correct meshing and end-float of this gear are essential to quiet running and accurate gear selection.
