This poly-V ribbed belt drives the alternator and water pump from the crankshaft pulley. As a service wear item, it should be inspected regularly for cracking, glazing, or fraying and replaced at the recommended service interval to prevent accessory failure or engine overheating caused by a broken or slipping belt.
