Sump – 2.25 Petrol/Diesel – 2.5 Petrol is the engine oil sump (oil pan) for the 2.25L 4-cylinder petrol, 2.25L 4-cylinder diesel, and 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engines used in Land Rover Series and early Defender and other models fitted with these engine variants.

The sump bolts to the base of the cylinder block and forms the lower reservoir of the engine lubrication system, housing the engine oil supply drawn by the oil pump. It incorporates a drain plug for routine oil changes. A matching sump gasket should be used on refitting to ensure an oil-tight seal to the block.
