The layshaft bearing supports the gearbox countershaft (layshaft) within the main gearbox casing, maintaining correct shaft alignment and allowing the layshaft gear cluster to rotate freely. Worn or failed layshaft bearings typically present as gearbox noise, rough gear engagement, or oil contamination with metallic particles.
