Steering Column Universal Joint – the lower joint in the steering column linkage.

The universal joint connects two angled sections of the steering shaft, transmitting rotation from the steering wheel down toward the steering box while accommodating the angular offset between them. The lower joint sits at the base of the column where the drive turns in toward the box input. Wear at this joint produces play and notchiness felt at the steering wheel.
