Piston Ring Set for the 2.25L 4-cylinder petrol engine, in +0.060 in oversize.
Piston rings perform three functions at once: they seal the combustion chamber against the cylinder bore so compression and combustion pressure act on the piston crown rather than escaping to the crankcase; they conduct heat out of the piston crown into the cylinder wall, which is the piston’s principal cooling path; and they meter the oil film left on the bore, wiping the surplus back to the sump on the down stroke.
Oversize rings are fitted after the cylinder block has been rebored and honed to the matching oversize, in conjunction with pistons of the same grade. Ring end gaps must be checked in the finished bore before assembly and the rings installed to their specified orientation, with the gaps staggered around the piston.
The set covers a single piston, so a complete four-cylinder engine requires four sets.
