Alternator – belt-driven charging unit of the A133 type, rated at 65 amps.

Driven from the crankshaft pulley, the alternator carries the vehicle’s electrical load once the engine is running and returns charge to the battery. An integral regulator controls field current so that system voltage stays within limits across the whole engine speed range, while the internal rectifier converts the stator output to direct current. The higher 65 amp rating covers installations carrying the additional current draw of air conditioning.

Symptoms of a failing unit include a charge warning lamp that stays lit, low or fluctuating system voltage, and a battery that will not hold charge. Where the fault is confined to the regulator and brushes, that assembly is separately serviceable as RTC5670.
