Description

Ignition Condenser for the contact-breaker (points) ignition system, mounted at the distributor.

The condenser is a capacitor wired across the contact-breaker points. As the points open it absorbs the current surge that would otherwise arc across the gap, suppressing burning and pitting of the contacts and sharpening the collapse of the coil primary field to give a stronger spark. Fitted to petrol engines running points-type distributors.

Normally renewed together with the contact points as part of a routine ignition service.
