Description

Engine coolant temperature sensor for the engine management system on the M62 B44 4.4L V8 petrol engine and the 2.5L V6 petrol engine.

The sensor is a thermistor that threads into the coolant circuit and supplies coolant temperature to the engine control unit, which uses it for cold-start enrichment, warm-up fuelling, ignition timing and cooling fan control.

A drifting or open-circuit sensor gives hard cold starting, poor warm-up running, erratic cooling fan behaviour and a stored temperature-circuit fault code. Top up and bleed the cooling system after the sensor has been disturbed.
