Outer Sill, left-hand – outer body repair panel for two-door bodyshells, forming the visible external skin below the door aperture between the front and rear wheel arch.
The outer sill is the outermost layer of the sill assembly. It is spot-welded over the inner sill and closing panel that form the structural box section along the base of the bodyside, and it is the layer most exposed to road spray, salt and stone damage. It is normally renewed as a cut-in repair panel where the visible skin has corroded while the inner structure remains sound.
Inspect the inner sill and closing panel for corrosion and treat the enclosed surfaces before the new outer skin is welded in.
