Fan Coupling – Electric for the engine-mounted cooling fan assembly.

This electronically controlled viscous fan coupling mounts on the water pump nose and drives the engine cooling fan. The coupling varies fan engagement in response to electronic control signals from the engine management system, modulating airflow through the radiator and condenser according to coolant temperature and load conditions. At low thermal demand the coupling slips freely, reducing parasitic load and fan noise; under high load it progressively increases engagement to maximise cooling capacity. A failed coupling may result in overheating, excessive fan noise, or the fan remaining permanently engaged.
