Layshaft Gear is the gear cluster carried on the layshaft (countershaft) of the manual gearbox.

Its gears run in constant mesh with the mainshaft gears, transmitting drive from the input shaft to the mainshaft to provide the forward and reverse ratios. This is the cluster fitted from gearbox suffix C onwards.
