Description

Split Pin is a cotter-type retaining pin used to lock a clevis pin or pivot pin in position.

It passes through the cross-drilled end of the pin and its legs are spread on assembly, preventing the pin working out under vibration and load reversal. In the door hinge and check strap assembly it retains the door check rod pivot pin.

Single-use: a split pin that has been opened and closed once has work-hardened at the bend and must be replaced rather than refitted.
