Layshaft Distance Piece – 0.445in is a precision spacer fitted to the layshaft in the manual gearbox of Series IIA and Series III Land Rovers.

The distance piece controls the axial positioning of components along the layshaft, setting the correct running clearance between gear clusters and bearing faces. It measures 0.445 inches in thickness and is selected during gearbox assembly or rebuild as part of the shimming process to achieve the specified layshaft end-float.
